ABSTRACT: The standardization in the field of "Geometrical Product Specifications and Verification - GPS" has become
important in recent years in the modern industry. So, geometric measurements have to be observed nearly, to provide high accuracy
and flexibility. At the beginning the simple instruments such as micrometers or calipers were in use. Today, in addition to
conventional devices, sophisticated measuring systems such as CMM's increasingly used in modern manufacturing [1]. Since each
measurement is subject to some uncertainty, the determination of measurement uncertainty is important for the measurement process
and they must be taken into account. A measurement result is only complete if it is accompanied by a statement of the uncertainty in
the measurement. The calibration procedures and steps are ordered on the basis of international standards. Besides, there are other
types of CMM‟s which are used in industrial plants; an instance is a portable articulated arm type. Their performance is based on the
procedures in standards like EN ISO 10360-2, EN ISO 14253-1, ISO/TS 23165. This study will observe and compare these
standards as well as developments of international standards for the calibration of the different type of CMM‟s especially articulated
arms.
