This lecture gives an overview about the very new field of strong-field -matter interaction on the ultrashort time scale. The main topic of the lecture is electronic dynamics in atoms and molecules driven by ultra-intense laser pulses. Novel phenomena related to excitation and/or ionization in the presence of strong laser fields will be introduced and explained
