J. Träff:
"Challenges in Message-Passing Interfaces for Large-Scale Parallel Systems";
Vortrag: UPMARC Summer School on Multicore Computing, Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden (eingeladen); 10.06.2013 - 12.06.2013.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Message-Passing is the most commonly used programming style for building parallel (scientific) application for (very) large-scale distributed/shared/hybrid-memory systems; and the Message-Passing Interface (MPI) the de facto standard for this. A major factor for the popularity of MPI is the richness and completeness of the standard, especially its support for collective operations, and mechanisms for higher-level library building. Other, perhaps less well known, less well established and less well implemented features may offer similar potential, and some of these will be discussed.

After an introduction to some of the more advanced features of MPI, including new MPI 3.0 functionality, the lectures will deal with (algorithmic) challenges in the implementation of MPI as well as with issues in the specification itself towards making MPI (and message-passing programming) viable and productive for very large-scale parallel systems.
