This paper presents a new, IT based approach to qualitative text analysis in order to find developments and clusters of interest in scientific papers, publications and books. To reach this aim, methods of data mining have been combined with methods of qualitative text analysis. The developed methodology has been tested by pointing out developments and trends of the TRIZ - method in recent years. The results have been cross-checked with experts during "expert interviews", thus providing an investigation into the probable and possible developments of TRIZ over the next years. The developed methodology is a combination of ICT (information and communication technology) and social science to provide a holistic investigation of any research topic.
