Visualization becomes more and more important as a tool for analysing microdata, and for presenting aggregated information for end-users and policy needs. We present an overview of the methodological and technological developments in data visualisation, and demonstrate the state-of-the-art in this field. Moreover, the differences of different plot systems and packages are discussed.

Using ggplot2 we show how a corporate design is established through all graphics by creating an own ggplot2 theme. Last but not least, we show applications of how to create graphical tables and summary statistics of the data for policy and reports.

Matthias Templ has a habilitation in Statistics. His research interests include computational statistics, survey methodology and compositional data analysis. He works for the Vienna University of Technology, for Statistics Austria, for the Palacky University of Olomouc and for data-analysis OG where he is one of the founders.

Alexander Kowarik is expert in computational statistics and survey methodology. He works for Statistics Austria and for data-analysis OG where he is one of the founders.
