Kurzfassung englisch:
Methane is a promising energy source regarding limited availability of conventional fossil fuels and increasing demand for efficient propulsion systems. The low C/H ratio compared to conventional fuels leads to lower CO2 emissions and the CNG combustion concept allows energy-efficient operation of downsizing engines.
Therefore, a small, high-efficiency engine has been developed in
the course of a funded research project as basis for the powertrain of the CULT demonstrator vehicle (Cars´ Ultra Light Technology). All potentials of CNG direct injection such as a scavenging charge cycle, better volumetric efficiency and higher compression ratios due to the high knock resistance of methane were aimed to be tapped.
The present investigations show a significant improvement of the
low-end torque characteristic and a way to increase the mileage
of the vehicle.
