Kurzfassung englisch:
Given that knowledge about single-event-transient (SET) propagation within a circuit is crucial for the design of a suitable radiation tolerance concept, we propose an architecture to experimentally monitor the propagation of SETs along a combinational path. Our proposed target circuit is a tree of inverters, augmented with counters placed in carefully selected locations. Since in the anticipated radiation experiments the location of a particle impact cannot always be precisely controlled, the counters must be radiation tolerant. To achieve this we use a combination of LFSRs and asynchronous up/down counters. While the former provide a very robust means for obtaining an absolute count of SETs, the latter can (as they provide relative counts only) be kept very small even in case of dynamic operation of the target, and can hence be placed in a sufficient degree of redundancy to allow a posteriori error correction. We present a respective fault dictionary that allows us to identify all single and double SET occurrences in both, target inverters as well as counters, by suitably interpreting the readouts of the counters.
