Kurzfassung englisch:
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
welcome to GEOMAP, the fi rst interna onal workshop on prac cal aspects of geochemical
explora on and mapping with logra o techniques. This forum aims at gathering together scien sts
from geochemistry, chemometrics and composi onal data analysis to discuss on the current
challenges and opportuni es brought forward by the applica on of logra o sta s cal methods
to regional geochemistry. In the recent years it has become clear that such an interdisciplinary
discussion is crucial to communicate, what the logra o approach can off er to the fi eld of geochemistry
and, conversely, which are the open ques ons of geochemistry that require further development
of the logra o methodology itself.
The workshop is intended as a forum of discussion of open problems and promising tools, more than
the typical set of independent talks on fi nal wrapped-up solu ons. During three days, the workshop
fl ows in topical sessions, each about a typical problem of regional geochemistry. Sessions start with
an invited keynote lecture focusing on a par cular problem, followed by comments or contribu ons
of a panel of scien sts, both from sta s cal-mathema cal and geoscience backgrounds. Immediately
a er, informal discussion and on-the-fl y training will be merged with classical coff ee breaks. Please
use it to expand the ideas you have, hopefully so the workshop will result also in a number of new
common projects that is our hear elt wish. The workshop will fully achieve its goals if each one of us
uses these discussion and training opportuni es to contribute with his or her ideas, pose ques ons
and state arguments.
We acknowledge the eff orts of all organizers and the support of our hosts and sponsors: the Faculty
of Science, Palacký University Olomouc, IAMG (Interna onal Associa on for Mathema cal Geology),
Spanish Society of Sta s cs and Opera ons Research (SEIO), Czech Geological Survey, Czech Geological
Society, Austrian Sta s cal Society (ÖSG) and the company data-analysis OG.
We wish you a produc ve, s mula ng workshop and a memorable stay in Olomouc.
