"Some Selected Tribological Basics/Fundamentals for Practical Applications - Characterisation and Simulation of Tribocontacts";
Keynote Lecture: 19th International Colloquium - Tribology - Industrial and Automotive Lubrication, Stuttgart, D; 01-21-2014 - 01-23-2014; in: "Tribology - Industrial and Automotive Lubrication - Book of Synopses 2014", TAE, (2014), ISBN: 978-3-943563-10-8; 1 - 8.

English abstract:
The Austrian governmental research funding program COMET offers the opportunity to the "Austrian Center of Compe-
tence for Tribology" (AC2T research GmbH, "ACēT") to run an ambitious interdisciplinary research program ("XTribol-
ogy") for and together with the industry. The aims of the single projects and work packages often address prominent issues
related to processes and products. Core activities are to improve reliability, increase performance and extend lifetime and can
mostly be assigned to typical measures in medicine. Some of these tasks are reported in this article. New approaches in "di-
agnosis" concern the detection/characterisation of lubricant influence on wear patterns of tribological surfaces. A powerful
"therapy" can be the application of antiwear coatings by the versatile possibilities offered by high power diode laser and
multi-axis workpiece manipulator. Damages due to tribocorrosion in oil exploration are a case of "pathology" and thus
were the reason for sound experimental investigations and complementary analyses. As a measure of "prophylaxis" the
additive performance - mainly in terms of wear protection - of gear oils under boundary friction conditions was studied.
