English abstract:
Japan has a long-time experience in living and dealing with natural hazards. Especially earthquakes have affected the country numerous times - most prominently in the recent 2011 Tôhoku earthquake and subsequent tsunami incident. Due to this history, earthquake-proof construction techniques have been at the core of Japanīs building culture since ancient times. The presentation will depict examples of both traditional and contemporary architecture and show how centuries-old knowledge can be adapted to modern building materials and techniques.
