"Steg 21 - A wooden bridge in the focal point of the revitalisation of a recreational area at Alte Donau";

The subject of this diploma thesis is the revitalization
and the restructuring of the area around the Birnersteig
in Wien Floridsdorf. This includes the site of the park
Dragonerhäufel, the northern bank of the Obere Alte Donau
as well as the zonal structure and the system of paths.
Furthermore, an open air pool "Angelibad" and a bridge
across the Obere Alte Donau the "Mühlschüttelsteg"
are situated in the planning area. This bridge is already
dilapidated and must therefore be replaced.
This architectural concept covers the design of the northern
and southern banks in this area, as well as the access to
Angelibad and the arrangment of paths across and along
the Alte Donau. This zone was remodelled and structured
in such a way that it meets the requirements of an up-todate
leisure and recreation zone.
The principal focus of designing is the detailled construction
of the bridge.
The elabortation of the bridge construction is more detailed
and includes conceptional detailed drawings.
As this, however, is not one of the conventional and widely
spread topics in architecture, an extensive research into
bridge construction is placed at the beginning of this
thesis. Especially, bridges for pedestrians and cyclists
are described, as well was as constructions in wood. A
further deeper analysis into this specific field is based on
ten examples of bridges already built. This is followed by a
detailed location study, a chapter on the static demands on
the bridge and a detailed designing.

Das Thema dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Revitalisierung
und Neustrukturierung des Gebietes rund um den
Birnersteig in Wien Floridsdorf. Dazu zählen die Parkanlage
Dragonerhäufel, das Nordufer an der Oberen Alten Donau,
sowie die gesamte Zonierung und Wegeführung in diesem
Bereich. Weiters befindet sich im Planungsgebiet das
Angelibad und die Mühlschüttelstege, eine Brücke die über
die Obere Alte Donau führt. Diese ist schon baufällig und
muss deshalb ersetzt werden.
Der architektonische Entwurf selbst umfasst die Gestaltung
des Nord- und Südufers in diesem Bereich, sowie den
Zugang zum Angelibad und die Wegeführung über und
entlang der Alten Donau. Das Gebiet wurde so umgestaltet
und strukturiert, dass es den Anforderungen einer
modernen Freizeit- und Erholungszone gerecht wird.
Im Fokus des Entwurfs steht die Brückenkonstruktion, die
genauer ausgearbeitet wurde. Dazu befinden sich in der
Arbeit konzeptionelle Detailzeichnungen.
Der Brückenbau zählt jedoch nicht zu den üblichen und
weit verbreiteten Themengebieten in der Architektur.
Daher findet sich zu Beginn der Arbeit eine umfangreiche
Grundlagenrecherche zum Thema Brückenbau. Im
speziellen werden Brücken für Fußgänger und Radfahrer
dokumentiert, sowie Konstruktionen in Holzbauweise.
Eine Analyse anhand von 10 gebauten Brückenbeispielen
behandelt eine weitere Vertiefung in diesem Fachgebiet.
Es folgt eine ausführliche Standortanalyse, ein Kapitel zu
den statischen Anforderungen an das Bauwerk und ein
detaillierter Entwurf.
