"On the expanding horizon of building physics";
Keynote Lecture: Convention at the Building Energy Reseach Center, Tsinghua University, Beijing, Beijing, China (invited); 2015-03-02 - 2015-03-07.

English abstract:
Until recently, building physics was believed to be only concerned with the physical performance of construction details or individual buildings. Building physics does of course address building details and whole buildings in view of their energy and thermal performance, visual and acoustical quality, construction integrity, and fire safety. However, current activities of building physicists in research, development, and education point to a much wider thematic horizon. Much more attention is being paid to the immediate internal (occupancy processes) and external (microclimatic and urban) boundary conditions of building performance. Moreover, simulation methods developed in the field of building physic not only facilitate building design support, but are also increasingly applied in the building operation phase. In this context, this lecture presents some recent and ongoing research regarding external and internal boundary conditions (urban microclimatic, occupancy processes), buildings performance as well as predictive building control.
