English abstract:
Electron Energy-Loss Spectroscopy and X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy probe the same transitions from core-shell states to unoccupied states above the Fermi energy. This equivalence has been used to establish a TEM technique called EMCD (Electron Energy-loss Magnetic Chiral Dichroism) (1,2), allowing to detect element specific magnetic moments on a nanometer scale, quite similar to XMCD (X-ray Magnetic Circular Dichroism), which nowadays is a standard technique in the synchrotron.
