Kurzfassung englisch:
Oxidation properties of dopamine were studied at and near physiological conditions on a glassy carbon electrode using cyclic and square wave voltammetry. At normal pH in the brain (pH = 7.2) dopamine exhibits a quasi-reversible oxidation to dopaminequinone and consequent cyclization reaction. The product of the cyclization is oxidized in a further step to dopaminochrome. The oxidation potentials of dopamine depend upon temperature and pH in a linear manner. The oxidation currents possess linear character for oxidation of dopamine to dopaminequinone and they exhibit a maximum in alkaline solutions. Quantum-chemical (DFT) calculations support the electrochemical observations.
