English abstract:
The historic roof structures of the Vienna Imperial Palace (Wiener Hofburg), spanning 600 years of carpentry tradition, are still widely unknown within the scientific community. Based on the latest studies on these ob-jects, this paper presents an exemplary insight into the results of the last five years of innovative interdiscipli-nary research. By using detailed shape-accurate survey methods, a systematic documentation of the geometry and construction history of the timber structures is being produced, including a detailed structural assessment. In this way, the knowledge base concerning the investigated structures could be considerably broadened. In addition to its importance for the field of scientific research, this systematic documentation of the structures will establish an exemplary mode of operation in the preparation of future preservation activities aiming at minimal and sustainable structural interventions with respect to the original technology.
