Kurzfassung englisch:
Calabi-Yau (CY) spaces, in particular those of complex dimension three, play an important role in theoretical physics where they arise as extra dimensions of string theory. The mathematical properties of CYs encode physically relevant information: for example the Hodge numbers of a CY counts the number of certain particles or the Gromov-Witten invariants associated to a CY compute quantum corrections to string scattering amplitudes. Furthermore dualities in string theory predict connections between different CYs. The most striking one is (homological) mirror symmetry which is stated in its most general form as an equivalence between suitable chosen derived categories associated to the CYs. CYs bring together many fields in mathematics: algebraic geometry, singularity theory, combinatorics,
etc. However, there is also a physics framework which brings them together. The aim of these lectures is to explain the physics technology to analyze CYs.
