English abstract:
In the last 40 years, assessing of the "Cu swelling" effect as a result of the interaction of Cu with carbon, nickel or other alloying elements during sintering has been a focus of interest of the PM steel industry. Although wetting has been pointed out as a determinant parameter of the behavior of Cu and its effect on the dimensional stability of the sintered steel, specific macroscopic measurements of Cu wettability have not been carried out. This work presents a full study of Cu wetting behavior on different Fe-base substrates performed through the classic sessile drop method. In particular, the study is centered on evaluating two main effects on wettability: (1) the presence of reducing agents in the atmosphere -Ar and H2 contaning atmospheres are compared-, in the substrate -plain iron and steel substrates are evaluated- or in the liquid phase -addition of oxygen sensitive elements to the liquid is also considered- and (2) the presence of dissolutive processes at the interface. The results have revealed the key phenomena affecting wetting behavior of Cu and have allowed to understand wettability of alloys (Cu-Ni and Mn-Si base) designed for liquid phase sintering of steels. Through this investigation a new understanding of the wetting phenomena has been possible since wetting cannot be considered as an isolated issue, but a more complex system, a wetting system, in which the whole interaction between the atmosphere, the solid and the liquid condition wetting evolution
