English abstract:
The PERC Collaboration will perform high-precision measurements of angular correlations in neutron beta decay at the beam facility MEPHISTO of the FRM II in Garching, Germany [1]. The new user facility PERC is designed to improve the sensitivity of neutron decay studies by one order of magnitude [2]. At its exit, PERC delivers neutron decay products under well-defined and precisely variable conditions. Depending on the correlation studied, the analysis of the decay products is performed with different and specialized detectors. PERC is under development by an international collaboration. The research groups in Vienna focus on the PERC magnet and instrumentation and on the NoMoS spectrometer [3, 4] design.
Scientific objectives, measurement principle and expected performance of PERC, neutron beam preparation [5, 6] and absorption [7], and different detector concepts will be presented.
