"Energy optimisation of wastewater treatment plants - Advantages of two-stage process concepts";
Talk: Presentation as part of the UniSA Collaborative Research Program, Adelaide, Australia (invited); 10-19-2016.

English abstract:
Energy optimisation of wastewater treatment is highly topical in wastewater engineering and research. Much of the current research focuses on two-stage process concepts, as these have advantages in relation to carbon management. In Austria, two-stage activated sludge plants have a long history and wastewater treatment plants like the well-known energy-positive Strass plant follow the two-stage plant concept. This lecture will demonstrate the benefits of two-stage concepts for energy efficient wastewater treatment. Additionally this concept will be linked to the current EU Horizon 2020 `PowerStep´ project (www.powerstep.eu) on energy-positive wastewater treatment plants.
