English abstract:
The goal of the thesis is to combine well known volume data structures on the GPU to a hybrid data structure. The concrete layout of the data structure is hidden for a higher level programmer designing algorithms on top of an abstract data layer. A strategy for optimizing the data structure based on the actual dataset and the required access patterns to the data is to be found.
