Kurzfassung englisch:
TRIGA reactors (Training, Research, Isotopes, General Atomics) can be considered as a `World of their Own´ among the large variety of research reactors. Originally developed in the late 1950ties more than 66 TRIGA reactors have been constructed world-wide, about 35 of them are still in operation. Being an ultra-safe research reactor it has been mainly built at university campuses or at hospitals. One of them is the TRIGA reactor Vienna operated by the Technische Universität Wien at the Atominstitut since March 7th 1962 very close to the Stadionbrücke in the second district. It is uniquely used for academic education and training at an university level and there is also a very close cooperation between two international organizations namely the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) both located at the Vienna International Centre in Kaisermühlen.
