"Basics of Corrosion";
Talk: Summer School Villach, Fundamentals & Trends in Microelectronics, Villach (invited); 2016-08-29 - 2016-09-02.

English abstract:
Corrosion as a process of materials degradation with significant economic impact is introduced and distinguished from other deterioration processes. From the prinipal corrosion mechanisms, the electrochemical corrosion reactions are discussed in more detail from the thermodynamic and kinetic point of view.
Variations of the basic electrochemical corrosion mechanism, such as general corrosion, pitting, crevice corrosion, bimetallic corrosion, and others are presented by practical (non-microelectronics) examples. Finally, the characteristics of mechanically assisted corrosion phenomena are briefly summarized.
