"Adaptive integration of nonlinear evolution equations";

We give an overview on recent work on a posteriori error estimation and time-
adaptive integration of nonlinear evolution equations of parabolic and Schr odinger
types. In particular, splitting techniques combined with spectral approximations
in space are considered. The computation of a posteriori local error estimates
can be based on optimized embedded pairs of schemes, the use of the adjoint of an (optimized) scheme, or defect-based evaluations. We discuss the construction and implementation of such error estimators and present some examples.
