Kurzfassung englisch:
Due to fast curing and high mechanical strength, photocured methacrylate networks are long-established materials for dental fillings, coatings and 3D-printing.
However, the high network density in such polymers leads to severe drawbacks, e.g. limited toughness and low monomer conversion. Addition-fragmentation chain transfer (AFCT) provides a powerful tool to overcome these issues by regulating the radical chain growth.
In this contribution, we present heterotelechelic hybrid oligomers by combining a reactive methacrylate group and a regulating AFCT group within the same oligomeric backbone. Upon photopolymerization, hyperbranched polymers are formed. The hyperbranched nature provides high molecular weight photopolymers with improved mechanical properties and solubility, higher conversion and reduced shrinkage stress.
