Kurzfassung englisch:
In the context of microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) in natural waters, the term ennoblement denotes the increase of the corrosion potential of a metallic material by biofilm. As will be demonstrated by examples, this phenomenon may lead to unexpected corrosion failures.
Since reliable prediction of ennoblement by chemical and/or microbiological analyses of natural water is currently an unresolved problem, the device MICRA-buoy was developed: A robust and autonomous unit for the electrochemical detection of ennoblement by direct exposition of material samples in natural water.
The current status of development will be reported. Results of first applications of MICRA-buoy in fresh and sea water will be presented and the potential fields of use, from MIC risk assessment over failure analaysis to corrosion and biofilm research will be discussed.
