Kurzfassung englisch:
We investigate the behaviour of a visco-elastic planar belt
drive, which is driven by a steadily rotating drum. Due to the
presence of the small damping parameter and the small bending
stiffness of the belt, the equations of motion are singularly
perturbed: Close to the separation from the drums the curvature
varies significantly and the precise separation point has to be
determined by the boundary layer equations.

In the first step we derive the ordinary differential equations for
the steady configuration of the constantly driven belt. Along this
steady configuration we linearize the equations of motion and
calculate the stability of the configuration by determining the
critical eigenvalues and corresponding modes. By varying the drive
speed, the damping coefficient, the tension force and the radii of the
drums, we locate the stability boundary for the steady motion in
parameter space. Preliminary calculations indicate, that the damping
parameter has a strong influence on the critical drive speed.
