Talk: ICALEO 2017, Atlanta, USA (invited); 2017-10-26 - 2017-10-27; in: "2017 ICALEO Conference Proceedings (online)", Journal of Laser Applications, 30/032411 (2018), ISBN: 9781940168142; Paper ID M601, 9 pages.

English abstract:
High speed micro welding with mono mode fibre lasers allows for excellent machining qualities especially concerning the joining of thin metal sheets and foils, if appropriate machining parameters are chosen. However, just slightly changing these parameters may lead to welding failures e.g. due to the humping effect or even to a transition from welding to cutting. To analyse and understand the underlying mechanisms for these failures we made use of a multiphysical, fluid dynamical model for the simulation of laser material processing that has been developed over the past years.
