The city of Yogyakarta is the cultural and creative center of Indonesia. The amount of universities and their reputation make Yogyakarta a melting pot for students from all over Indonesia and also an attraction pole for students from abroad. This thesis is about the idea of opening an alternative cinema to offer a permanent and steady addition to the sporadical film festival and screening in Yogyakarta. The cinema should function as a platform for cineastes, film makers and students to watch movies together, present their own work and to review. The thesis discusses different models of cinema and it's value in Austria as well as in Indonesia. A conceptual and an architectural design for the planned cinema itself complete the thesis.

Die Stadt Yogyakarta in Indonesien ist das kulturelle und kreative Zentrum Indonesien. Die hohe Anzahl und das Ansehen der dortigen Universitäten machen Yogyakarta zu einer Anlaufstelle für junge Menschen. Diese Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit der Idee, in Yogyakarta ein Programmkino als konstante Ergänzung zu sporadisch stattfindenden Film Festivals und Screenings zu eröffnen. Das Kino soll als Plattform für Cineasten, Filmemacher und Studenten dienen um gemeinsam Filme zu schauen, eigene Arbeiten zu präsentieren und zu diskutieren. Es werden verschiedene Modelle sowie die Aufgabe von Kino in Österreich und Indonesien hinterfragt. Ein Konzept zum geplanten Kino selbst und ein Entwurf runden die Arbeit ab.
