"The key role of urban design in building sustainable, socially integrated and prosperous urban environments.[..] can help tackle climate change. It reduces the impacts of disaster.
It can help make our cities safer, cleaner, and more equal and integrative."
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

"China hosted in 2014 the first World Cities Day in collaboration with UN-Habitat. The aim of the event was to promote the international community´s interest in global urbanization, to boost cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities and challenges in this area and to contribute to sustainable urban development in cities around the world.
Since the establishment of Word Cities Day on the 27th December 2013 by the UN General Assembly, its general topic has been `Better City, Better Life´. However, the theme: `Leading Urban Transformations´, was about redefining the urban paradigm for future generations.
It aims at encouraging people to contribute with creative and innovative solutions to improve the future of urban areas". Free from the "World Cities Day"

SUMMARY Affordable housing is probably the most important urban issue for the rapidly growing cities in the near future. Affordable housing is a basic requirement and an essential ingredient of a just, inclusive and sustainable city. With the rising prices and decreasing affordability throughout the world, it is of paramount importance for the architecture today to introduce models of affordable housing that are accessible to the majority of urban population.

MADE IN VIENNA by JADRIC ARCHITEKTUR is about the history and contemporary models of housing in Vienna and our active contribution to this important project.
In Vienna almost 60% of the city´s population lives in some form of subsidized housing. The Viennese model of affordable housing is built on a diverse definition of social and affordable housing that includes city-owned flats and limited-profit housing co-operatives. The City of Vienna organizes special "developers' contests" that promote a developer & architect alliance and encourage innovative engagements between construction, design,
and planning professions.

SOFT CITY RENEWAL Today, the City Department for Housing and Urban Renewal of Vienna is responsible for the subsidisation of several thousand new apartments each year; administration of more than 220,000 city-owned flats (Wiener Wohnen) and Europe's largest housing renewal program wohnfonds_wien - (Fund for Housing Construction and Urban Renewal). Vienna´s housing model represents a successful integration of design, ecology, economy and social sustainability. Major architects, past and present, have been involved
in the design of this social housing strategy created to encourage interaction among social classes, and promote innovation and high-quality design.

MADE IN VIENNA provides an opportunity for Chinese audiences to explore this complex urban intervention and one the most significant international contributions to the problems of contemporary housing by city of Vienna. The concepts and designs developed by JADRIC ARCHITEKTUR will help understand this specialisation of the housing and social agency.

. utilized research and an analysis of diverse sources in an imaginative-, creative- and operative-manner, interpreting these through two and three dimensional graphic simulations.
. clearly articulated and defined a strategic and rigorous design position from its conceptual stage to a developed design proposal based on an in-depth appreciation of design principles of the selected typology.

DESIGN STRATEGIES AND GOALS
The presentation of case study housing projects in Vienna and intensive collaborative efforts with the planners, economists, sociologists, landscape designers.
The visual diaries including diagrams and drawings of selected projects that, in turn, will be interpreted on site.
