English abstract:
First, an overview of the present status in research on THz RTD oscillators will be given. In the following, we address a specific type of RTD oscillators, we focus on travelling-wave microstrip RTDs. Our theoretical analysis shows that, contrary to THz QCLs requiring cryogenic cooling, such microstrip RTD oscillators should be operating at room temperature at sub-THz and THz frequencies. Due to larger active volume, microstrip RTD oscillators could potentially provide higher output power, compared to conventional lumped-element RTD oscillators.
