Kurzfassung deutsch:
Despite the steadily improving methods for process diagnostics in laser beam welding the fluid dynamics within the weld pool responsible for defects like pore formation, humping or spiking are not understood sufficiently. The multiphysical simulation model presented within this contribution is not only a powerful tool to reliably predict processing results like weld depth and width or temperature distributions but also helps to reveal the reasons for the above mentioned welding defects.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Despite the steadily improving methods for process diagnostics in laser beam welding the fluid dynamics within the weld pool responsible for defects like pore formation, humping or spiking are not understood sufficiently. The multiphysical simulation model presented within this contribution is not only a powerful tool to reliably predict processing results like weld depth and width or temperature distributions but also helps to reveal the reasons for the above mentioned welding defects.
