"Hydrogen trapping in Fe-Nb-C - Modeling and experiments";
Vortrag: THERMEC 2018, Paris, Frankreich; 08.07.2018 - 13.07.2018.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Nb and its carbides play a crucial role in the production process of HSLA steels. In addition to their beneficial impact on mechanical properties, Nb and its compounds are also made responsible for a reduction of the amount of diffusible H within steel, due to trapping of H atoms at elementary Nb as well as NbC particles. In order to determine the strength of the different traps, a Fe-Nb-C model alloy is heat treated to achieve different size distributions of NbC particles. These samples are then electrochemically H-charged using an aqueous sodium sulfate solution containing arsenic trioxide. After charging, the samples are investigated by means of thermal desorption spectroscopy to assess the effect of the different precipitate sizes and therefore different interface to precipitate-volume ratios. The calculated trapping energy for the NbC interface (and the precipitate volume) are then used for diffusion calculations with the thermokinetic software package MatCalc. The simulation results are correlated with a hydrogen penetration experiment using localized measurements of diffusible hydrogen at various depths from the surface.
