English abstract:
In spite of 150 years of research, there are still numerous open questions on the hydrosedimentological
processes occurring in meandering rivers. Recent research on these
processes in meandering rivers has been reviewed herein. The dominant processes are
first identified and the underlying physics are described in a synoptic way. For each
process, the important control parameters are identified and the type of model required
for the simulation of the process is considered. Then, the mutual interactions between
the different processes are described. Finally, some future research directions
are recommended
in field investigations, laboratory investigations and numerical
modelling
