The train station is a special place in the city. Hardly anyone else is occupied with such diverse projections as it is. As a reception room, it links the local with the global, the place with the landscape, the own with the world. The surrounding quarter is a transitional space, an ambivalent grey zone between the worlds, in which this change suggests itself. It is the place of the other that appears strange, disturbing and at the same time attractive. The other allows us to escape ourselves. The dream of travelling to foreign countries, in which this form is reflected, mixes here with the dreams of those who have come to us from afar.

As a world in the world, the station quarter in the city forms a microcosm. Little Tokyo, Quartier Latin, Chinese Village, Little Africa - the world city can only describe itself as such if it absorbs them and reflects them. As a miniature and model, the station quarter houses the global as well as the local, the fantastic as well as the profane, the attraction of the foreign as well as the local and the uncanny.

The anonymous stream of travellers often conceals what has found no place elsewhere in the city and seems to be alien to it. People without a place, the milieu and the creative, those who think differently and those who have arrived, the attractive and the abysmal. Around the nucleus of the journey, a field of all that is constantly in motion is formed. International quarters allow us to approach the world cautiously in our own city.

Als Miniatur und Modell beherbergt das Bahnhofsviertel das Globale wie Lokale, das Fantastische wie das Profane, die Anziehungskraft des Fremden wie auch das Heimische und Unheimliche.

Im anonymen Strom der Reisenden verbirgt sich oft, was andernorts in der Stadt keinen Platz gefunden hat und ihr wiederum fremd zu sein scheint. Menschen ohne Ort, das Milieu und Kreative, Andersdenkende und Angekommene, Anziehendes und Abgründiges. Um den Nukleus der Reise formiert sich ein Feld all dessen, was ständig in Bewegung ist. Internationale Viertel erlauben es uns, uns in der eigenen Stadt der Welt behutsam zu nähern.
