English abstract:
To be "competitive" as a railway, operational efficiency is a must. This is often subordinated to other essential aspects, such as practicality, in the context of rail vehicle interior planning. In practice, this leads to the opposite of the desired result. Misunderstood operational efficiency concepts such as maximum use of space for sitting can actually lead to a decrease in operational efficiency, operational problems and incidents with serious safety risks. In practice, the attempt to maximise the number of seats on the train leads to fewer available seats due to a lack of space for luggage accommodation and, at the same time, to a longer passenger exchange time.
