"Architecture Meets Algorithm";

Algorithms and data help us to understand the technology, design, and instruments that were essential to ancient rhetoric: "Copia" is the Latin word for "abundance." But how can something that isn´t clearly defined and delimited be copied? And what does that mean for the relationship between automatism and learning? How do form and internalization come together in one skill? These questions have always been the focus of architectural design. Swiss national Vera Bühlmann performs research in the fields of architectural theory and the philosophy of technology. Since 2016, she has held a professorship at the TU Wien and since 2010 has run together with Ludger Hovestadt the Applied Virtuality Lab she cofounded at the ETH Zurich. Her work focuses on the question of how architectural thought changes with the advance of digitalization. In her lecture, the writer and editor of numerous academic publications will outline mutual references to be found among virtuality, architecture, and design.
