P. Knees:
"Towards Recommender Systems for Music Creators";
Talk: HCI Lunchtime Scientific Series, TU Wien; 2019-01-14.

English abstract:
While music recommender systems have become an everyday commodity for music listening, not much impact of recommender systems can be observed in the area of music creation. From interviews with professional music producers and creators, i.e., practitioners and experts in sound retrieval, we find that while existing methods to explore large collections such as sample databases are actually far from their needs, work practices, and intuition, the idea of a recommender system interfering with their process poses a potential threat to their artistic originality. In this talk, I will discuss requirements and research directions for intelligent systems supporting the creative processes of music makers based on these findings and highlight conceptual as well as prototyped new interfaces for music production.
