The doctoral thesis deals about the synthesis, structural and magnetic investigation of novel Co(II) and Fe(II) mononuclear coordination compounds containing substituted derivatives of the tridentate 2,6-bis(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine and bidentate 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-benzimidazole ligands. Three pentacoordinated and one hexacoordinated Co(II) compounds were characterized by SQUID magnetometry in the static magnetic field. The experimental data were supported by calculations that identified the positive axial magnetic anisotropy parameter D in all four cases. The dynamic magnetic investigation revealed slow relaxation of magnetization in the static magnetic field, therefore compounds are considered as field induced single ion magnets. Thirteen Fe(II) coordination compounds were prepared and studied from the structural and magnetic point of view. Eleven compounds that contain modified tridentate ligands show only the low spin state behavior. On the other hand, two compounds that contain bidentate ligand exhibit temperature and light triggered spin crossover (SCO) behavior.
In the next, a series of three-dimensional (3D) Hoffman-like
