Kurzfassung englisch:
The tribochemical interaction of the ionic liquid triethylmethylammonium methyl sulphate as an additive in poly (ethylene glycol) base fluid with a steel surface sliding against alumina was investigated by in-situ electrochemical
methods based on Open Circuit Potential (OCP) measurement and Cyclic Voltammetry (CV). In the current-potential relationships of the lubricant with and without sliding interaction, significant differences were observed. Additionally, contributions of the neat base fluid, selected added contaminants, and atmosphere composition to the entire reactivity were studied. In the presence of the ionic liquid, subtle changes of the current influence friction substantially. Protective atmosphere was shown to sensitize the chemical response to potential excursions, giving evidence of a redox couple possibly existing temporarily on the wear track surface.
