The following masters thesis Die Stadt weiterbauen neue urbane Räume für Salzburg [Continuing to build the city - new urban spaces for the city of Salzburg] focuses on the topic of urban densification based on an integrated, strategic urban planning approach. The thesis is based on the realization that many promising projects in the fields of urban, spatial and transport planning in the agglomeration of Salzburg are failing in their implementation. The reason for this failing is identified, among other things, in the complicated, divided state of planning and decision-making competencies in the regions central zone and the lack of an integrated, holistic development-strategy. Based on an analysis of the historical context and the current planning discourse, the thesis shows scenarios for the further development of the networks of the different modes of transport, the development of the urban fabric and the future of the natural environment up to the year 2040. Guided by the content of current laws and development plans, the scenarios depict a linear development of densified settlements along the major routes of the different modes of public transport. The development presented in these scenarios become the basis of an integrated urban strategy for the neighbourhoods around the Alpenstraße, a major radial road in the southern part of the city of Salzburg and for the design of ten strategic pilot projects. The strategy shows the transformation and consolidation of the existing urban structure, based on the principles of the ideal urban model of a linear city. Finally, this work intends to show the added value that can arise for the population through a consolidation of the existing urban fabric, as long as it is coordinated with an enhancement of the public transport systems and an upgrading of the nearby natural environment.

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit Die Stadt weiterbauen neue urbane Räume für Salzburg beschäftigt sich mit der Thematik der innerstädtischen Verdichtung durch eine integrierte, strategische Stadtplanung. Ausgangspunkt der Arbeit ist die Erkenntnis, dass viele zukunftsweisende Projekte der Stadt-, Raumund Verkehrsplanung in Salzburg an ihrer Umsetzung scheiterten. Als Grund dafür identifiziert die Arbeit unter anderem die komplizierte Aufteilung der Planungsund Entscheidungskompetenzen im Salzburger Zentralraum und die fehlende Einbettung der Einzelprojekte in eine Gesamtstrategie. Basierend auf einer Analyse des historischen Kontextes und des aktuellen Planungsdiskurses werden Szenarien für die mögliche Mobilitäts-, Siedlungsund Landschaftsentwicklung bis ins Jahr 2040 aufgezeigt. Aktuelle Gesetze und Entwicklungspläne deuten die Entstehung linearer Siedlungsstrukturen entlang der Trassen leistungsfähiger öffentlicher Verkehrsträger an. Diese Szenarien dienen als Grundlage einer städtebaulichen Strategie für den Teilraum Alpenstraße im Süden der Stadt Salzburg und für die Ausarbeitung vertiefender Pilotprojekte. Die Strategie zeigt eine sich an den Prinzipien des städtebaulichen Idealmodells der Bandstadt orientierende Transformation und Verdichtung der bestehenden Stadtstruktur. Zuletzt soll diese Arbeit den Mehrwert zeigen, der durch eine auf die Entwicklung der Mobilitätsträger abgestimmte und mit der Aufwertung städtischer Landschaftsräume einhergehende, innerstädtische Verdichtung für alle StadtbewohnerInnen entstehen kann.
