Kurzfassung englisch:
The mid-infrared is the spectral region of choice, when it comes to sensing and spectroscopy. Capturing data of the pollution in the air, infections of individual plants on a field, or our current physiological condition opens a variety of new possibilities. However, mid-infrared technology is expensive, most components are bulky and often have a high power consumption. Monolithic integration of mid-infrared photonics will overcome these limitations and enable miniaturized and hand-held sensing devices at reasonable costs. I will present recent results as well as an outlook towards monolithic single-chip spectrometers. Starting from the integration of lasers and detectors and prototype demonstrations of chemical sensors, advances on the realization of novel integrated frequency comb sources for future single chip spectrometers will be discussed.
