The focus of this thesis is the search for the contemporary city entrances of the 21st century to the city of Krems an der Donau, for the city entrance structures and elements that define the current city entrances of European medium-sized cities. Building on this, the city access with the greatest need for action is used for further analysis. The city entrance I selected is located in an inhomogeneous zone on the outskirts and is currently cut through by many spatial barriers, has a wide variety of city structures right next to each other and the existing open spaces are unattractive and difficult to access. The focus is therefore on making the city entrance visible, improving the quality of stay and acces- sibility of the open spaces and natural spaces, and there by improving the use of urban space.Through a multi-part intervention, the perception of the city entrance will work and the connection of the suburban district with the center of Krems will be successful..

Schwerpunkt dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Suche nach den wahrnehmbaren Stadteingängen des 21.Jahrhunderts von Krems an der Donau, nach den von mir definierten Stadteingangsstrukturen und Stadteingangselementen, welche zeitgenössische Stadteingänge europäischer Mittelstädte beschreiben. Nach dessen Bestimmung wird ein relevanter Stadteingang mit Potenzial, welcher nicht wahrnehmbar ist und den meisten Handlungsbedarf hat, zur weiteren Analyse herangezogen. Der von mir ausgewählte Stadteingang in einer inhomogenen Zone am Stadtrand ist derzeit durch viele räumliche Barrieren durchschnitten, besitzt die unterschiedlichsten Stadtstrukturen direkt nebeneinander und die vorhandenen Freiräume sind unattraktiv und nur schwer zugänglich. Das Ziel ist das Sichtbarmachen und die Stärkung des Stadteinganges, einer Verbesserung der Aufenthaltsqualitäten und Zugänglichkeiten der Frei- sowie Naturräume und einer dadurch besseren Nutzung des Stadtraumes. Durch eine mehrteilige Intervention wird das Wahrnehmen des Stadteinganges und die Anknüpfung des suburbanen Stadtteils, bestehend aus Industrie-, Gewerbe- und Wohngebiet, in Richtung des Stadtzentrums gelingen.
