The population of Vienna is growing rapidly and theneed for living space is increasing accordingly. But with the growth, the need for jobs also increases. Industry is an important part of a city´s economy and could counteract the lack of jobs. At the same time, the term industry is constantly changing in terms of its meaning and application and is thus opening up new fields. Within the scope of this work, the change in the term industry over time is examined more closely and requirements for a sustainable industry are developed.Industry and commercial areas take up a lot of space and are perceived as annoying in cities due to noise and its appearance. The aim is to seize the change in the industry as an opportunity to integrate these areas better into cities and to create a fluid transition of functions. Two different areas in Vienna, Liesing were selected for more detailed processing. Concepts for redesign are intended to define the framework for the future development of these areas.

Die Bevölkerung Wiens wächst stark und dementsprechend erhöht sich die Nachfrage an Wohnflächen. Doch mit dem Zuwachs steigt auch der Bedarf an Arbeitsplätzen. Die Industrie ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil der Wirtschaft einer Stadt und kann dem Fehlen von Arbeitsplätzen entgegenwirken. Zugleich befindet sich der Begriff Industrie in einem stetigen Wandel seiner Bedeutung und Anwendung und eröffnet somit auch neue Felder. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit wird die Veränderung des Begriffs Industrie im Laufe der Zeit näher betrachtet und Anforderungen für eine zukunftsfähige Industrie erarbeitet. Industrie und Gewerbegebiete haben einen hohen Flächenverbrauch und werden in Städten aufgrund von Lärm und deren Erscheinungsbild als störend empfunden. Ziel ist es die Veränderung der Branche als Chance zu ergreifen, diese Gebiete besser in Städte einzubinden und einen fließenden Übergang der Funktionen zuschaffen. Für die genauere Bearbeitung wurden zwei unterschiedliche Gebiete in Wien Liesing gewählt. Konzepte zur Umgestaltung sollen den Rahmen für die zukünftigte Entwicklung dieser Gebiete definieren.
