"Architectural Design. Interplay between Geometry, Materials, and Shape - an overview.";
Vortrag: SIAM Conference on Geometric and Physical Modeling, online international (eingeladen); 27.09.2021 - 29.09.2021.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Free-form shapes have become increasingly popular in contemporary architecture. They can often only be realized by managing an interplay between shape, materials, geometry, statics, fabrication, algorithms, prototyping, aesthetics, cost effectiveness, sustainability, and even further aspects. Constructing large-scale buildings makes it necessary to subdivide large surfaces which will be realized as roofs or facades, into smaller segments, the panels. And the choice, or better, conception of the paneling is the crucial step where the above mentioned aspects come together. We will give an overview on recent developments in geometric computing for realizing cost-effective paneling strategies, how they are represented in discrete models that are well suited for direct evaluation of geometry and material dependent energies, and the interplay between geometry and material behavior.
