The design task, the site and the client present the frame for any architect`s work. These three entities establish the basis of the work submitted: The campus as the building task, Weimar as the site and the Bauhaus-Universität as the client.Within the scope of a design course and a symposium held back in 2016, the university expressed the building task and defined a building site. Real spatial needs are the source for the specified spatial programme, which comprises an extensive expansion respectively a redesign of the existing campus.The etymological investigation as well as the examination of the history of the building typology "campus" are the first logical steps in approaching the design task. In order to gain an understanding of the identity and character of the city of Weimar, literary anecdotes in particular provide us with a vivid picture, and today`s Bauhaus-Universität looks back on an eminent history that is strongly interwoven with the city, which is also indispensable for the planning process.The aim of the final draft was to meet the demands of the preset spatial programme and to plan from a given context. The result is a building ensemble of an exhibition hall and a workshop building, which rests on a base floor that houses the Archiv der Moderne. The "collected knowledge" literally grounds the foundation and at the same time creates a unity with the exhibition and workshop. Complementary to this ensemble, an administrative building and a building dedicated to studios and ateliers form a sequence of squares or open spaces.

Die Bauaufgabe, der Ort und der Bauherr stellen den Bezugsrahmen für jegliche entwerferische Tätigkeit dar. Diese drei Entitäten schaffen die Basis der vorgelegten Arbeit: Der Campus als Bauaufgabe, Weimar als Ort und die Bauhaus-Universität als Bauherrin.Seitens der Universität wurden im Rahmen einer Lehrveranstaltung und eines Symposiums im Jahr 2016 die Bauaufgabe formuliert und ein Bauplatz definiert. Reale räumliche Bedürfnisse bilden die Grundlage für das vorgegebene Raumprogramm, das eine umfangreiche Erwei-terung bzw. Neugestaltung des bestehenden Campus vorsieht.Die etymologische und bautypologische Untersuchung sowie die Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichte der Bauform "Campus" sind erste logische Schritte, sich der Entwurfsaufgabe zu nähern. Um ein Verständnis über die Identität und den Charakter der Stadt Weimar zu erhalten, liefern uns im Speziellen literarische Anekdoten ein anschauliches Bild, und die heutige Bauhaus-Universität blickt ebenso auf eine bedeutende, stark mit der Stadt verwobene Historie zurück, welche für den Planungsprozess unabdingbar ist.Ziel der entwerferischen Aufgabe war es, dem vorgegebenen Raumprogramm gerecht zu werden und aus dem Kontext heraus zu planen. Entstanden ist ein Ensemble aus Ausstellungs- und Werkstattgebäude, das auf einem Sockel-geschoß fußt, welches das Archiv der Moderne aufnimmt. Das "gesammelte Wissen" des Ar-chivs ist gleichzeitig konstruktives wie geistiges Fundament und bildet eine Einheit mit Ausstel-lung und Werkstatt. Komplementär zu diesem Ensemble formen ein administratives Gebäude und ein für Studios und Ateliers gewidmeter Bau eine Abfolge von Plätzen bzw. Freiräumen.
