English abstract:
Online talk in the frame of the exhibition Superstudio Migrazioni at CIVA (15.01.21 - 16.05.21)
As from 1967, Superstudio works with design manufacturer Poltronova to develop a series of design objects that possess a strong figurative charge. The sofas and lamps assume the form of waves, flowers and rainbows. With their bright colours and innovative materials, these objects are like foreign bodies introduced in opposition to bourgeois conventions and forms of progressive modernism. Also in the 1970s, Superstudio remained critical of the object and the inability of design to confront the existing systems with alternative forms.
Elisabetta Trincherini, director of the Poltronova archive, will talk about the influence of Superstudio on the evolution of design and furniture. The lecture will review the fundamental role played by the Florentine design manufacturer and will discuss the other companies with which Superstudio collaborated. It will explore this singular thought of a design that is practically unreachable.
The conference will be followed by a discussion with Amaryllis Jacobs, co-founder of the Brussels gallery MANIERA, and Emmanuelle Chiappone-Piriou, curator of the exhibition, on the contemporary challenges of this encounter between architecture and design.
