Kurzfassung englisch:
The Pilot pen company has recently launched a new range of pens with erasable ink. Unlike many previous erasable inks, these pens do not require an interaction with a second chemical for eradication but instead rely on the heat supplied by friction created when rubbing the ink with the rubberised end of the pen. The ink can be made visible again by placing in a very cold environment, such as a freezer, suggesting the FriXion pens employ a temperature dependent chemical system.

Here we present sets of temperature perturbed Infrared spectra from a highlighter pen and a gel ink pen from the FriXion range. Using 2D Correlation moving window analysis we have been able to identify different stages in the temperature induced chemical changes, an example of which is shown in Figure 1. In conjunction with Multivariate Curve Resolution - Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS), we have used this information in order to determine the nature of the chemical components within the FriXion highlighter and gel pens.
